Kitchen Cabinet Colors

If a kitchen renovation is on this year’s to-do list, you have a lot to think about. Planning a kitchen remodel includes everything from deciding on the right floorplan to choosing the best flooring, fixtures, countertop material, and more. It also includes picking out the perfect kitchen cabinets that you’ll be happy with for years to come.

Keep in mind that the timeline for most kitchen remodels is every 10-15 years. Unless you’re planning to sell your home in the near future, it’s especially important to pick timeless colors for your kitchen cabinets. When you invest in quality cabinets, you can do remodel refreshers between this big gap in remodel timelines. For example you can give your kitchen a whole new look when you replace pendent lights, backsplash, and countertops.  So long as you select neutral cabinets, you’ll be on-trend with these updates for a fraction of the price.  You can change your whole color scheme with this approach and most of your friends will believe you remodeled your whole kitchen.

If you’re living in your forever home, or don’t plan on leaving anytime soon, go ahead and follow the current kitchen cabinet design trends. You don’t have to be afraid to try out bold colors that match your personality, or a retro or vintage look. If you’re not sure what your plans are, or just want to be on the safe side, think about using these kitchen cabinet colors that have withstood the test of time.

White cabinets

From farmhouse kitchens to sleek, modern ones, white cabinets have been a popular choice for many years. They fill the room with a clean, fresh look and can easily be accented by wood flooring or colored appliances. Choose classic white as your timeless kitchen cabinet color and you can always change things up in the future with a new tile backsplash or wall color. As you look at design trends over the years, you’ll note that whitest of white appears in almost every decade – the 80s did have along and strong bout of authentic looking wood cabinetry, but plenty of us have gotten over that.

How you introduce or accent your white cabinetry is all in your style. Your designer will ask you to show them pictures of kitchens you like and kitchens you don’t like to understand your style. From colors to textures and details, together with your designer, you will define your style to identify the perfect color palette, cabinet design, and kitchen priorities for layout. You can see the different styles of white cabinetry from above to the below photo differ vastly; we design to your style.  The above kitchen cabinetry is more modern using white shaker cabinets, while the kitchen image below is using custom veneer cabinetry with mirrored and glass insets. The lighting alone shows this kitchen is a much more glam kitchen style with over the top features like the custom stove and hood.

Kitchen Remodeling with timeless cabinetry

Cobalt or navy blue

These blue shades give the kitchen a sense of richness or luxury. The deep color is perfectly complemented by lighter appliances or countertop materials. From a seaside retreat to a country cottage or modern city apartment, dark blue kitchen cabinets bring sophistication and a stylish flair that stand the test of time.

Gray or greige

Similar to white ones, gray kitchen cabinets are neutral enough to be able to be paired with many different colors and fixtures. Rather than using traditional gray, you could also opt for greige, a combination of gray and beige. Either way, these colors bring a sense of calm to one of the busiest rooms in your home. And, their timeless nature means you can keep them around for a long time and mix and match accent colors of your choice.

Glass kitchen cabinets

Okay, so this isn’t technically a color, but it is a timeless kitchen cabinet design. Regardless of what color the actual cabinet is, having glass doors puts more of a focus on what’s inside the cabinet versus what’s on the outside. One note of caution is warranted here, though. Glass cabinets may not be your best timeless option if you tend to overload your cabinets or not keep things organized. However, they can be the perfect choice if you keep things neat and tidy or have glassware or special dishes to display.  Below you see glass cabinets with a metallic frame and an opacity that enables you to not have “perfect” displays yet still shows you where your items kitchen necessities are nestled.
