Planning a Functional Outdoor Kitchen

Planning a Functional Outdoor Kitchen

Outdoor Kitchen RemodelToday, outdoor entertainment means much more than barbecue grills and patio furniture. On average, Orange County residents are spoiled with more than 280 days of sunshine a year, which is why these outdoor spaces have taken on the name “California Rooms”.  California rooms have become an extension of our homes, and most include outdoor kitchens for entertaining. Custom outdoor kitchens can include pizza ovens, wet bars, refrigerators, cook top burners, smokers, and warming drawers.

Remodeling and designing your outdoor kitchen can be a dream come true. Not only does it add value to your home, but if you like to have people over and enjoy entertaining, odds are you will be using your outdoor kitchen for more than just the occasional barbeque. Your outdoor California room can include anything you can dream up – large family dining tables, comfy couches in front of a built-in fireplace, televisions, bars, you name it. The days of running back and forth from the backyard to the kitchen are over. You can now eat and relax with guests, all while enjoying our great weather.

While one can dream of their perfect outdoor entertaining area, it may be harder to put together a cohesive design and plan than you think. Work with a designer to discuss your kitchen remodel and your vision, and let them handle the design, structural plans, material details and execution.

Two design elements that are paramount to client satisfaction, is having enough counter space in order to prep and serve food, as well as making sure that you have functional storage to avoid the trip back to the kitchen indoors. Make sure your design does not isolate the cook from the rest of the party; there is nothing worse than getting stuck with grill duty while hearing everyone else having a blast!

Lastly, choosing the right furniture and layout for your outdoor space will keep your guests entertained, and your soiree running smoothly, so you can thoroughly enjoy the festivities, too.  Happy planning!

GENERAL CONTRACTOR VS. HANDYMAN

GENERAL CONTRACTOR VS. HANDYMAN

Sometimes it doesn’t take much thought in whether or not to hire your neighbor’s friend’s sister’s uncle to come in and change a ceiling fan for you. And sometimes you just know when it’s time to call-in a roofing contractor to put on a new top to your casa. But what about those times when you need a general contractor even though you could really could get away with bringing in a handyman (who’s always served you right in the past) to do a job so you save a few bucks if you passed on the residential contractor route? Do you take that risk? What are those risks? And what are you getting yourself into if things go awry?

handymanThese are just a few questions you need to ask. There are myriad reasons why taking the time and being deliberately cautious and careful will serve you right when getting these answers. When approaching home renovation companies to ask for bids on your home remodel project, you know that your home’s protection is worth that time and effort. Whether you’re planning a whole new addition to your house or only installing a new garage cabinetry storage system, making the right decision on who to do this work for you is going to be critical to your wallet and peace of mind.

Making the right decision will inevitably save your budget, your down time inside your home during the installation, and unforeseen frustrations during each home remodeling design phase. You can’t just open yourself up to the liabilities inherent in taking short cuts. When you hire the best residential contracting company in Orange County you’re saving yourself a big headache.

Let’s take a look at your custom bathroom remodel. Say you needed to update your sink, tub and toilet, upgrade some plumbing, and change your bathroom cabinets in the most frequently used room in your house. And your mother-in-law needs some assistance so putting up handrails inside the shower is something else you’re considering. Who would you want to bring into your home to do that bathroom remodel?

Do you want to take your chances on giving this bathroom remodel to a guy who happened to have a few skills he’s picked up over the years? Or would you feel more secure in hiring a bathroom remodeling design team? A general contractor who does a different bathroom construction every few weeks? Whose custom bathroom design team can work on your home remodeling project by helping you select your favorite bathroom cabinet style, walk you through your home renovation design according to your family’s needs, and give you a legally-binding guarantee that will soothe you and give you assurance for years down the road?

My preferences are for the general contractor choice. Some things you just can’t cut corners on. And I’m one of those people who likes efficiency by saving money and effort whenever I can—I pride myself on that. I think all of us do. Clearly, the value of a home remodeling done with the right home improvement contractor with experienced custom bathroom designers on the team is nothing to sneeze at. The liabilities down the road and lack of guarantees when dealing with a handyman’s work are legendary—you’ve heard those nightmare handyman tales told at parties about the horrific experiences of more than a few of your friends.

Especially when your home renovation project is a customized bathroom remodel, you want to choose a home remodeling team established in a home contractor company who you can depend on. When you are dealing with your own home, your own castle, you want to know that you’re making the best choices possible. You have your peace of mind at stake, and even more critically important, your family’s safety to uphold. Hiring a residential contractor with integrity is a must. You want to hire a home contractor who’s kept an excellent track record over a long period of years, and who has a pile of testimonials from customers like you all over Orange County. That deliberate effort in choosing the right home construction company will go a long way in satisfying your every need and desire.

A KITCHEN REMODEL THE WHOLE FAMILY WILL LOVE

Open floor plans have gained popularity over the last few years, which typically open the family room and kitchen to one another creating a great room. An open floor plan allows a family to spend quality time together, without infringing on each other’s personal space and activities.Below we answer common questions that come our way.

What do you need to think about when designing an open plan kitchen?
You have to consider all the activities that will take place in the room, and how they can work together. Preparing meals, watching television, surfing the internet, doing homework, paying the bills, relaxing with a magazine and chatting with friends you have to make sure these can all happily co-exist in your open plan kitchen.
To cater for all these different needs, it’s always best to work with an experienced designer that can customize your space. An experienced kitchen designer’s job is to help homeowners maximize space and functionality of a room and ensure there is a seamless feel between all parts.

What are the practical considerations?
Many of our clients love to entertain, but it doesn’t always mean they need huge double ovens taking up tons of wall space and storage. Consider using a range with a small side oven to replace your second large oven. Another option is to go with a convection microwave that can be used as a microwave for the day-to-day cooking and switched to an oven when you have a few extra guests.

Do you have any recommendations for colors?
It’s important to think about the overall theme of the room. Usually it makes sense to match the kitchen style to existing furniture in order to cut costs.
Simple, light paint tones are often used in open plan kitchens as they enhance the proportions of the room: darker colors or more detailed wall papers would detract from the overall feel and ambiance of the new space.

How can we create an extra space for seating?
If you have a large enough space, you can add seating on the end of your island. It creates a great space to do homework, pay bills and socialize with the chef of the house. From a design perspective, you can get creative and pick a different color for the island than the rest of the cabinetry, or select a fun countertop material that is different than the rest of the kitchen.
