This gives a buffer in case of any unexpected road bumps that may create delays. You may also need to keep in mind that your belongings will need a place to stay out of the way, as well. Look in to local storage centers if you need to empty out rooms. The time buffer can also give you time to move your belongings back in if you choose to store them.
Leave Room in the Budget
Leading up to a big remodeling project, it is always smart to leave a cushion in your budget. This will help with any extra costs that arise, or if you decide on any changes throughout the makeover. What is more gratifying than seeing your finished space? Being able to compare it side by side with what once was! Take before photos not only to document any changes for personal files, but also for memories and to show off what a great difference has been made.
Cover and Protect Furniture
Depending on the size of the job, things can get messy during a remodel. Whatever furniture or belongings you decide not to keep in storage should be covered and protected with a waterproof tarp. This will help keep the debris of construction from damaging any of your possessions.
Alert the Neighbors
As a courtesy, neighbors may appreciate the heads up that you will be remodeling. Your home makeover does indeed affect them, as some projects may produce construction noise during the day. If your project involves demolition, waste containers could potentially use several spaces of street parking as well.
